Kat Stefanova art

Kat is a Bulgarian-born artist based in Christchurch. 

Known for her vibrant interpretations of the New Zealand landscape, her paintings “glow” with color, capturing not just the look of a place but its atmosphere and emotion.

Kat’s creative process often starts with travel, photography, and sketching on location, gathering impressions that later inform her work. 

With a background in fine art and graphic design, she blends traditional painting techniques with modern compositions. 

She often works in acrylics, using bold color, sharp edges, and dynamic brushwork to create a sense of flow and rhythm. 

While she draws influence from impressionism and modernism, she adapts these ideas to develop her unique style. Informed by traditional landscape art, Kat aims to breathe new life into the genre. 

She has exhibited in group and solo shows in Christchurch and Sofia, Bulgaria. 

Her art has been featured in publications and is held in collections across the US, Australia, Europe, and New Zealand.

She also takes on custom commissions and mural projects. 

Beyond painting, Kat collaborates with other artists and organizations as a designer and curator, seeking new ways to explore visual storytelling.
