Our newly reformulated Mac’s Mud Speckled Buff (MB2 Speckle) is a traditional, iron-bearing, plastic midfire clay body made from 100% New Zealand clays. It offers excellent throwing and handbuilding properties, ideal for both small and large-scale work.

What’s changed?

MB2 Speckle has a few key differences compared to the original Mac's Speckled Buff:

- White speckle has been removed due to sourcing issues

- Slightly higher shrinkage

- More vitreous at cone 6

- Increased thermal expansion for improved glaze fit

Note: Due to the more vitreous nature of MB2 Speckle, firing above cone 8 may result in warping or bloating. We recommend testing for your specific application.

- Mesh size 50

- Dry shrinkage 5-6%

- Cone 5 - Total shrinkage 12-13 %, Absorption 1.5-2.5%

- Cone 6 – Total shrinkage 12-13%, Absorption 1-1.5%

- Cone 7 – Total shrinkage 12.5-13%, Absorption 0.5-1%

- Cone 8 – Total shrinkage 12.5-13%, Absorption 0.3-0.5%
